Day 2 was rough. I’ll be honest, this was the hardest part of the whole fast. My glycogen stores were gone, but my body hadn’t fully switched into fat burning yet. That left me in this weird in-between stage.
I felt cold. I felt moody. And yes, I thought about food nonstop.
Science says this is normal. When you’re about 36–48 hours into fasting, norepinephrine rises, and your metabolism can even speed up. But that doesn’t mean it feels easy. Your body is making a big shift, and you can feel it.
Here’s what got me through Day 2:
- Staying hydrated and adding electrolytes to my water.
- Avoiding intense workouts. No strength workout at all. I stuck to light walking a.k.a. walking around the mall
- Staying off social media food videos (seriously, that made it worse).
- Reminding myself why I started in the first place.
At one point, I actually considered stopping. But I told myself, if I could get through Day 2, I would make it all the way. And I was right.
If you ever try fasting, expect Day 2 to test you the most.
