Watch it in HD!
“This is so surreal. It looks like we’re in an Avatar movie.” Those were our thoughts when paddling in Siargao specifically in the mangroves. It was so crazy how something that beautiful was readily available for us. The mangroves was like a place taken from a scene of the Avatar movie or some place you can find in the Amazon. It’s a lagoon/swamp feeling. You don’t know if there’s going to be an alligator that would swim up and bite your finger off, but I assure you that there aren’t any. Our tour guides would joke about it though. There are bats however, living in the branches inside of the mangroves. There are also lizards and other creepy crawlers. It was such a serene and quiet place. You can hear the birds call and talk to each other. For a moment if you really listen you can almost understand what they’re saying….. who am I kidding lol I know you can’t but what I’m saying is that it is so silent that it felt like you were living in their world and not ours.

When we were in Siargao our package included a Stand Up paddle board either at Sugba Lagoon or the Mangroves. We missed the Sugba Lagoon so we ended up going to the Mangroves and it was AMAZING. It felt like we were in a different world. Like we were in a movie. Avatar lol. Seriously! It was only 4 of us. My boyfriend, me and our 2 awesome tour guides. It was so serene. You can hear the birds call out and communicate to each other. The fish jumping out of the water. The male crickets chirping to attract the female crickets. It was an amazing experience. We even saw a lizard crossing our path. It actually kind of freaked me out lol. Our tour guides kept on joking and saying to watch out for alligators, but there weren’t any. I mean there really weren’t any right? lol..
So in order to get there you have to get the big habal habals. The motorcycle with the sunroof. That’s where you store the boards and paddles. It’s around 30 minutes to get to the starting point which is actually the beach. Then you get on your paddle boards and go on from there. It’s an hour long paddling. So half way we started to sit down cause it was tiring just standing there. Sitting down was a lot more relaxing. There were also bats that lived inside the mangroves. So watch out for that. Our end point was actually just somewhere at the side of the road and the habal habals were there waiting for us already….I will never forget this experience….
It’s like swamp water.
