- You will always be tired. Imagine having to stand and walk for 12 hours everyday, getting up before the sun even rises, and lifting patients that are twice as big as you.
- Your schedule is just a piece of paper. Nursing will always ask for your time, even when you’re on a day off. (Something we definitely need to stop doing! Don’t let them guilt trip you into coming in on your day off!)
- You need to learn how to deal with different people. Each patients require different care and approach. What worked on your patient last Monday may not work on your patient today.
- Death will always take a toll on you. Dealing with death and grief may be taught in nursing school, but once you are actually experiencing it, once you have really witnessed it, you will not know what to say to the patient’s mother being left behind. It will always be a new experience and it will be hard.
