Nursing is one of the professions that is currently massively understaffed at the moment despite the best efforts of, well pretty much everyone. Even though people are still training to be nurses, there are a lot of reasons that are turning people away from choosing it as their career option, or just avoiding it altogether. The problem with this of course is that we need nurses for various reasons, but mainly to help the sick and the injured. Without nurses, society would simply not function well, which is why we’ve written this article. If you are thinking of getting into the nursing world, then you need to know a few things and think about a few things before you do. Have we got your attention? Good.
Are You Willing To Undertake The Education?

In order to become a nurse there is some pretty intense education that you are going to have to go through, and not everyone is going to pass. It’s complex because there are so many things that you need to know, and so many things that you need to know how to do, meaning that it can take quite a while to complete.
People often think that becoming a nurse is massively easier than becoming a doctor, but we’re going to say that this isn’t true. You don’t need the same education, and it’s a lot cheaper to become a nurse, but you still need to know a lot of information about the human body, the mind and other things. As such, you’ve got to be able to commit to undertaking the education even though it’s not a short process. Then there are a few tests that you need to pass to become registered and so on.
Can You Cope With The Training?
Are you going to be able to cope with the training? It can be pretty intense, and you’re going to see things when you are training that you probably never thought you would see. Some people say that this is the most difficult phase of nursing as you are not yet prepared for what is to come, but you will be.
It’s important that you look up what it’s like to train as a nurse before you commit to it. Look into the hours that you are going to need to train, look into how long it takes, look into what it is that the training entails and so much more. We’re not hoping to put you off by saying this, but we do want you to understand that it’s a lot of work and it’s not just going to magically get easy because you committed to it. It will be tough and it will test you, you just need to decide if you want it badly enough.
Are You A Caring Person?
There are some people that will make it in the nursing world, and there are some that won’t. Those who lack empathy, those who don’t care about their patients, and those who don’t put enough effort in to do the job properly will not survive in the nursing world. You have got to be someone who cares for other people, who wants to help people to get better in all sorts of ways related to their health.
It’s a big difference between caring enough to be sympathetic towards someone, and being caring enough to help do something about it though. A lot of people don’t want to be involved in this kind of career because it doesn’t always work out for the best, there isn’t always a happy ending for your patients and it can be super tough. If you are too caring and too emotional, then it’s possible that the hard days are going to break you.
Do Gross Things Phase You?

A big question that you need to ask yourself is whether or not gross things phase you. Do things like blood, vomit, poo and phlegm disgust you? If they do, and it’s not something that you can put aside, nursing is probably not right for you. Nurses are going to deal with things like this pretty much on a daily basis, so if it’s not something that you can deal with then you’re not going to make it very far in this profession.
Nurses need to have a strong stomach, and the ability to not let gross things impact them, or get in the way of doing their job. Some days you might get covered in puke, and other days you might not, but you need to be prepared that it could happen.
Do You Perhaps Want To Make This Into A Business?
Later down the line when you have experience and you have been working in the nursing world for a while, you might decide that you want to get into the business side of things. We are just presenting this as an option and just letting you know that you can. If you have always been interested in business but you also want to help people so you want to become a nurse, this is a fantastic combination of the two goals. You are going to need to think about things such as what to look for in nurse scheduling software, what kind of business you want to run and so much more though, so it will take a lot of work.
Some people choose to completely forgo the nursing training and simply open a business for nurses, and that’s okay too. It’s whatever suits you the best.
Hopefully, you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you should be considering if you are thinking of getting into the nursing world. Nobody said that it was going to be easy, but if you are determined to make the world a slightly better place than you found it, perhaps this is the option for you. There are many sides to nursing, so you don’t have to be in a hospital 24/7 if you don’t want to be, as you have seen.
